SIL Translator’s Notes on Judges 2:17

2:17a Israel, however, did not listen to their judges.

But they also disobeyed what the judges said.

But the Israel people did not pay attention to their judges.

2:17b Instead, they prostituted themselves with other gods and bowed down to them.

Instead, they served foreign gods and knelt before them.
-or-
They were unfaithful ⌊to Yahweh⌋ like a woman who is not faithful to her husband, and they worshiped idols.

2:17c They quickly turned from the way of their fathers,

They quickly left the path of their ancestors
-or-
They were not like their ancestors.

2:17d who had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments;

who had obeyed Yahweh’s commands.
-or-
They did not obey Yahweh’s commands.

2:17e they did not do as their fathers had done.

They did not act like their ancestors.
-or-
They acted differently than their ancestors had acted.
