2:12a Thus they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers,

They abandoned Yahweh, the God of their ancestors

They stopped worshiping Yahweh, the God their ancestors worshiped,

2:12b who had brought them out of the land of Egypt,

who had taken them out of Egypt.
-or-
the one who took them out of Egypt.

2:12c and they followed after various gods of the peoples around them.

They followed the gods of the people who lived around them and worshiped them.
-or-
Instead they bowed down to the idols of the people around them.

2:12d They bowed down to them and provoked the LORD to anger,

They made Yahweh angry

Yahweh became angry
