Section 20:18-48

The clans of Israel fought against the clan of Benjamin

20:18a The Israelites set out, went up to Bethel, and inquired of God,

⌊Before they fought,⌋ the Israel people went to Bethel town to ask God for advice.

The people of Israel went ⌊first⌋ to the town of Bethel ⌊where God’s covenant box was⌋ . They asked God

20:18b “Who of us shall go up first to fight against the Benjamites?”

They asked, “Which one of us should be the first to attack the Benjamin people?”
-or-
which ⌊of the clans⌋ should go first to fight the people of Benjamin.

20:18c “Judah will be first,” the LORD replied.

Yahweh answered, “The people of the Judah clan must be the first to attack.”
-or-
Yahweh told them that the clan of Judah should go first.
