SIL Translator’s Notes on Judges 16:21

16:21a Then the Philistines seized him,

So the Philistia men captured him

The Philistia people arrested him

16:21b gouged out his eyes,

and plucked his eyes out.

and pulled out his two eyes

16:21c and brought him down to Gaza,

They took him downhill to Gaza.

and took him to Gaza town.

16:21d where he was bound with bronze shackles

There they tied him with bronze chains

They ⌊put him in prison and⌋ tied him with strong chains of bronze.

16:21e and forced to grind grain in the prison.

and made him work for them grinding grain in the prison.

They made him turn a millstone to grind grain in the prison.

16:21a-e (reordered)

Then the Philistines arrested Samson, put his eyes out, and took him down to the town of Gaza. There they tied him with bronze chains and forced him to work, grinding grain in the prison.
