Section 4:1-5

Enemies of the Jews did not want them to rebuild the temple

4:1a When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that

¶ Then, some enemies ⌊of the Jewish clans⌋ of Judah and Benjamin heard that
-or-
¶ There were some ⌊non Jews there⌋ who did not like ⌊the descendants of⌋ Judah and Benjamin. They heard ⌊the news/report⌋ that

4:1b the exiles were building a temple for the LORD, the God of Israel,

those who had returned were building a temple for Yahweh, the God of Israel.
-or-
those who had returned to ⌊the land of Judah⌋ were rebuilding the house of the God whom they worship, Yahweh.
