SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 9:19

9:19a So the king sent out a second horseman,

Then the king sent a second horse rider.

-or-

So King Joram sent another man on a horse.

9:19b who went to them and said,

When this man met Jehu’s company/group, he said,

-or-

This man went to meet Jehu and his men/soldiers. He said to them,

9:19c “This is what the king asks: ‘Have you come in peace?’”

“This is what the king says, ‘Is there peace ⌊between us (incl.) ⌋ ?’”

-or-

“The king wants to know if you (plur.) are coming as friends or enemies.”

9:19d “What do you know about peace?” Jehu replied.

Jehu answered, “What does that matter to you (sing.) ?

-or-

Jehu answered, “That is none of your (sing.) business.

9:19e “Fall in behind me.”

Just follow (sing.) me.”

-or-

What you must do is join my men.”
