8:27a And Ahaziah walked in the ways of the house of Ahab

Ahaziah followed the ⌊bad⌋ example of the family of ⌊King⌋ Ahab,

-or-

Ahaziah did the same evil things that the family of Ahab ⌊had done⌋ .

8:27b and did evil in the sight of the LORD

and did what was wrong before Yahweh,

-or-

He disobeyed Yahweh by doing what Yahweh does not like.

8:27c like the house of Ahab,

just as the family of Ahab had done.

-or-

⌊He acted⌋ just like king Ahab and his descendants ⌊before him⌋ had done.

8:27d for he was a son-in-law of the house of Ahab.

Ahaziah’s mother Athaliah was a sister of Joram the son of Ahab, that is, his father had married a daughter of Ahab. Ahaziah himself was married to a woman of Beersheba in Judah named Zibiah (2 Kings 12:1).

⌊This was⌋ because he was related to King Ahab by marriage.

⌊He did⌋ this because he was related to Ahab’s family.
