25:5a but the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king

But the Chaldean/Babylonian army chased the king of Judah ⌊and his men⌋

-or-

But Babylonian men/soldiers quickly followed ⌊in order to capture⌋ the king ⌊of Judah⌋ .

25:5b and overtook him in the plains of Jericho,

and caught up to him at the plains of Jericho.

-or-

They were able to reach/catch him at the flat land near Jericho ⌊city⌋ .

25:5c and all his army was separated from him.

His/Zedekiah’s whole army left him and scattered away.

-or-

All his soldiers deserted him and ran away in different directions.
