SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 25:19

25:19a Of those still in the city,

From among those people who were still in the city,

-or-

From among the people remaining in Jerusalem,

25:19b he took a court official who had been appointed over the men of war, as well as five royal advisors.

The Hebrew phrase that the Berean Standard Bible translates as “royal advisers” is literally “men seeing the king’s face.” These were men who met with and advised the king personally.

he took away an officer who had been the leader of the soldiers, and five of the king’s advisors.

-or-

he/Nebuzaradan also seized/arrested a commander of the army ⌊of Judah⌋ and five of the king’s personal counselors.

25:19c He also took the scribe of the captain of the army, who had enlisted the people of the land,

He also took away the scribe of the army. This scribe was the officer responsible for recruiting/drafting the men of Judah ⌊into the army⌋ .

-or-

He also seized/arrested the military officer responsible for the military records of Judah.

25:19d and sixty men who were found in the city.

The Revised Standard Version translates this literally as “sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the city.”

⌊He also took⌋ 60 of the men of Judah who were found in the city.

-or-

And then he seized/arrested sixty (60) ⌊other⌋ men of Judah who were still in Jerusalem.
