SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 25:1

25:1a So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign,

The reference is probably to the year 588 B.C. The Babylonians conquered Jerusalem about a year and a half later, in 586 B.C.

So when Zedekiah had ruled ⌊Judah⌋ for nine years,

-or-

After nine years of ⌊King⌋ Zedekiah’s rule

25:1b on the tenth day of the tenth month,

on the tenth day of the tenth month ⌊of the year⌋ ,

-or-

on day ten of the tenth month ⌊of the Hebrew/Jewish calendar⌋ ,

25:1c Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his entire army.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came/advanced against Jerusalem. His whole army came with him.

-or-

Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon led/brought all his army/soldiers to attack Jerusalem.

25:1d They encamped outside the city

They camped outside the city

-or-

He had them put up tents outside the city ⌊walls

25:1e and built a siege wall all around it.

and made ramps ⌊outside the walls⌋ all around it.

-or-

and build ramps against all the walls.
