2:4a And Elijah said to Elisha,

Then Elijah said to Elisha,

Then Elijah said ⌊again⌋ ,

Then Elijah asked Elisha

2:4b “Please stay here,

“Please stay (sing.) here, Elisha,

-or-

“Elisha, you (sing.) should stop here.

-or-

to remain behind in Bethel

2:4c for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho.”

because Yahweh has sent me on to Jericho.”

-or-

Yahweh has told me to go ⌊further,⌋ to ⌊the city of⌋ Jericho.”

-or-

while he himself went on to Jericho ⌊town⌋ , as Yahweh had told him to do.

2:4b-c (reordered)

“Yahweh has told me to continue on to Jericho. I would like you (sing.) to stay here in Bethel.”

2:4d But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live,

And he replied, “As it is certain/true that Yahweh lives and that you (sing.) live,

And Elisha answered, “As you (sing.) can be certain/sure that Yahweh lives and that you live,

-or-

But ⌊Elisha refused.⌋ He promised/swore by Yahweh’s life and by Elijah’s life that

2:4e I will not leave you.”

I will not leave you.”

so you can be certain/sure that I will go/continue with you.”

-or-

he would not part/separate from Elijah.

2:4f So they went to Jericho.

So they went to Jericho ⌊together⌋ .

-or-

So they both traveled/walked to ⌊the city of⌋ Jericho.

And Elisha went/continued on with him to Jericho.
