20:9a And Isaiah had replied, “This will be a sign to you from the LORD

Isaiah said, “This will be the sign/proof from Yahweh

The prophet⌋ Isaiah answered ⌊King Hezekiah⌋ , “Yahweh will give you (sing.) a miraculous sign

20:9b that He will do what He has promised:

that he will do what he told you:

to assure you⌋ that he will heal you (sing.) as he has said he will do.

20:9c Would you like the shadow to go forward ten steps,

The stairway of Ahaz (verse 11 ) was probably used as a sort of sundial. People knew the time of day by the position of the shadow on its steps.

The shadow will move either ten steps forward

-or-

Choose⌋ whether the shadow ⌊on the stairway⌋ should become longer by ten steps

20:9d or back ten steps?”

or ten steps backward.”

or whether it should shorten/reduce by ten steps.”
