SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 19:37

19:37a One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch,

This god is also mentioned in Isaiah 37:38. Spell his name as you did there.

One day, as he/Sennacherib was worshiping in the house of Nisrok his god,

-or-

One day Sennacherib/he went to the temple of his god Nisroch. As he was worshiping there,

19:37b his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword

his own sons Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to death with their swords.

-or-

two of his sons, Adrammelech and Sharezer, attacked him with their swords. They killed him.

19:37c and escaped to the land of Ararat.

Then they escaped and went into the land of Ararat.

-or-

Then they fled to the Ararat region.

19:37d And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.

Sennacherib’s son Esarhaddon became king in his place.

-or-

Another son, Esarhaddon, became the next king of Assyria.
