16:12a When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar,

When the king returned from Damascus, ⌊he went to⌋ look at the ⌊new⌋ altar.

King Ahaz returned from the city of Damascus. He ⌊went⌋ to see/inspect this ⌊new⌋ platform

16:12b he approached it and presented offerings on it.

Then he went to it and he made offerings on it.
