King Ahaz changed the religious practices in Judah
16:1a In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah,
In the seventeenth year of ⌊the reign/rule of⌋ Pekah son of Remaliah ⌊over Israel⌋ ,
-or-
Seventeen years had passed since Pekah the son of Remaliah ⌊became king of Israel⌋ .
-or-
When Pekah the son of Remaliah had ruled the people of Israel for about seventeen years,
16:1b Ahaz son of Jotham became king of Judah.
Ahaz son of King Jotham of Judah became king ⌊in his father’s place⌋ .
-or-
Ahaz, the son of the ⌊old/previous⌋ king Jotham, began ruling Judah.
-or-
Ahaz succeeded/followed his father Jotham as chief of the land of Judah.
