SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 14:3

14:3a And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD,

Amaziah did what was right in the sight of Yahweh.

-or-

Amaziah ⌊generally⌋ acted in a way that pleased Yahweh.

14:3b but not as his father David had done.

But Amaziah did not act like his ancestor David.

-or-

However, he did not behave/live ⌊as well/righteously⌋ as ⌊King⌋ David, his ancestor, had done/lived.

14:3c He did everything as his father Joash had done.

⌊Instead,⌋ just as Joash his father had done/acted, so he/Amaziah did/acted.

In everything he behaved like his father Joash.
