SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 13:21

13:21a Once, as the Israelites were burying a man,

One time this happened while Israel’s people were burying someone.

-or-

One day ⌊a man of Israel died and⌋ the/his people went out to bury him.

13:21b suddenly they saw a band of raiders,

They caught sight of a group of ⌊these⌋ bandits!

-or-

A gang of ⌊Moabite⌋ raiders/thieves suddenly came into sight/view.

13:21c so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb.

So they tossed/dropped the man’s corpse into Elisha’s grave.

-or-

The ⌊Israelite⌋ people/mourners quickly put/lowered the dead body into the ⌊same⌋ grave where Elisha had been buried.

13:21d And as soon as his body touched the bones of Elisha,

When the corpse touched the bones of Elisha,

-or-

The dead body came into contact with Elisha’s bones/skeleton.

13:21e the man was revived and stood up on his feet.

the man came back to life and sprang to his feet.

-or-

Immediately, the dead man became alive again and stood up.
