11:2a But Jehosheba daughter of King Joram, the sister of Ahaziah,

The Hebrew text has “King Joram.” Joram and Jehoram are different forms of the same name and refer to the same person, the son of Jehoshaphat of Judah. It is recommended that you use the same form that you used in 2 Kings 1:17 and 8:16.

But Jehosheba, whose father was King Jehoram and whose brother was Ahaziah,

-or-

But King Jehoram’s daughter Jehosheba, Ahaziah’s sister,

-or-

But Ahaziah’s sister Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram,

11:2b took Joash son of Ahaziah

took away Ahaziah’s ⌊little/young⌋ son Joash.

-or-

⌊came and⌋ got/rescued Joash, the son of ⌊her brother⌋ Ahaziah.

-or-

was able to get/save ⌊her nephew⌋ Joash, the son of Ahaziah.

11:2a-b (combined)

But Joash the ⌊baby⌋ son of Ahaziah was rescued by his aunt Jehosheba. She was his father’s sister, a daughter of King Jehoram.

But the ⌊little⌋ son of Ahaziah named Joash was saved by his father’s sister Jehosheba.

But Jehosheba was able to take/get Ahaziah’s baby son Joash away. ⌊She was his aunt,⌋ the daughter of King Jehoram and the sister of Ahaziah.

11:2c and stole him away from among the sons of the king

In secret she carried him off/away from the ⌊rest of⌋ the king’s sons

-or-

No one saw/noticed her lift/remove Joash from among the ⌊other⌋ sons of the king

-or-

Secretly she took him away from the ⌊other young⌋ princes

11:2d who were being murdered.

who were about to be put to death.

-or-

whom ⌊Athaliah⌋ was having killed/massacred.

-or-

who were being put to death.

11:2e She put him and his nurse in a bedroom

Jehosheba put him and his nursemaid in a bedroom

-or-

She sent Joash and his nanny/caretaker to a ⌊private⌋ bedroom

11:2f to hide him from Athaliah,

in order to keep him safe from Athaliah.

-or-

where Athaliah could not find/see him.

11:2g and he was not killed.

So he was not put to death.

-or-

So ⌊she/they⌋ did not kill him.

11:2e-g (combined)

She hid him and his nanny in a private bedroom, where he was safe from Athaliah.

-or-

Jehosheba gave him and his nanny a secret room to live in, so that Athaliah did/could not find and kill him.
