10:8a When the messenger arrived,

When the messenger reached Jehu,

The messenger came to Jehu

10:8b he told Jehu, “They have brought the heads of the sons of the king.”

he said to Jehu, “The people have brought the heads of the royal sons/children.”

and told him, “People ⌊from Samaria⌋ have brought ⌊you (sing.) ⌋ the heads of the boys from the king’s family.”

10:8c And Jehu ordered, “Pile them in two heaps

Then Jehu said, “Put (plur.) the heads in two heaps

-or-

Jehu told/commanded ⌊his men/servants⌋ to pile/stack the heads in two groups

10:8d at the entrance of the gate until morning.”

by the entrance of the city gate. ⌊Leave them there⌋ until morning.”

-or-

at the big gate into the city. ⌊The heads could/must stay/lie there⌋ until morning came.
