SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 10:15

10:15a When he left there,

Jehu left that place.

-or-

Jehu ⌊and his men/soldiers⌋ left there ⌊and continued toward Samaria⌋ .

10:15b he found Jehonadab son of Rechab,

As he went on his way⌋ he met Jehonadab, the son of Rekab,

-or-

On the way they saw Rekab’s son/descendant Jehonadab.

10:15c who was coming to meet him.

who was coming to meet him.

-or-

Jehonadab was searching for Jehu.

10:15d Jehu greeted him and asked,

Jehu greeted Jehonadab and asked him,

-or-

Jehu spoke to him in a friendly way. He asked,

10:15e “Is your heart as true to mine as my heart is to yours?”

“Is your (sing.) heart true to me, as mine is to you?”

-or-

“Are you loyal/devoted to me, as I am to you?”

10:15f “It is!” Jehonadab replied.

Jehonadab answered, “Yes, I am with you wholeheartedly.”

-or-

Jehonadab replied, “Yes, I am loyal/devoted to you.”

10:15g “If it is,” said Jehu, “give me your hand.”

Jehu said, “If you are, then stretch out your hand to me.”

-or-

Then Jehu said to him. “Good. Take/Shake my hand.”

10:15h So he gave him his hand,

So Jehonadab stretched out his hand to Jehu.

-or-

So he/Jehonadab took/shook Jehu’s hand.

10:15i and Jehu helped him into his chariot,

Then Jehu invited him up to join him in his chariot.

-or-

Jehu then welcomed him into his own chariot.
