SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Corinthians 7:9

7:9a And now I rejoice,

Now I am glad ⌊that I wrote it⌋,
-or-
but now I rejoice ⌊that I sent it⌋.

7:9b not because you were made sorrowful,

not because you (plur.) were made sorrowful,
-or-
I am not happy because I caused you grief.

7:9c but because your sorrow led you to repentance.

but because your sorrow caused you to repent.
-or-
But I am happy because the grief that you felt made you change your thinking ⌊and follow God again⌋.

7:9d For you felt the sorrow that God had intended,

For your sorrow was according to what God wanted you to feel,
-or-
What I mean is this: you grieved in a godly way,

7:9e and so were not harmed in any way by us.

and so you had/incurred no loss/hurt through us (excl.).
-or-
and so we caused you no harm at all.
