SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Chronicles 8:8

8:8a their descendants who remained in the land, those whom the Israelites were unable to destroy—

All the descendants of these people who were still in the land, the ones the Israelites had not killed,
-or-
The children of the people who still lived in Israel because the Israelites had not killed all of them

8:8b Solomon conscripted these people to be forced laborers, as they are to this day.

Solomon forced to work as slaves. They are still slaves to this day.
-or-
King Solomon made to be slaves. They are still slaves now.

8:8a–b (combined)

These people were the children and grandchildren of the people that the Israelites had not killed. Solomon forced them to work as slaves for him. And they are still slaves today.
