4:4a The Sea stood on twelve oxen,

The Sea was placed on the backs of twelve ⌊figures/carvings of⌋ bulls/oxen.

4:4b three facing north, three facing west,

Three ⌊of the bulls/oxen⌋ faced north. Three others faced west,

3 were turned toward the north. Another 3 were turned toward the west.

4:4c three facing south, and three facing east.

three faced south, and three faced east.

3 others were turned toward the south, and the other 3 were turned toward the east.

4:4d The Sea rested on them,

The sea was set on top of the ⌊figures of⌋ bulls/oxen.

The bulls/oxen supported the basin.

4:4e with all their hindquarters toward the center.

The hindquarters/backsides of the bulls/oxen were toward the center.
