25:20a But Amaziah would not listen,

But Amaziah did not pay attention ⌊to this warning⌋

25:20b for this had come from God in order to deliver them into the hand of Jehoash,

because God had decided to hand him over to Jehoash.

God planned to allow King Jehoash to conquer him

25:20c because they had sought the gods of Edom.

⌊God did this⌋ because he had worshiped the idols of Edom.
