25:18a But Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah:

Jehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah ⌊with a parable⌋. He said,

But Israel’s king Jehoash replied to Judah’s king Amaziah with the following story/riddle.

25:18b “A thistle in Lebanon sent a message to a cedar in Lebanon,

“There was a thorn bush in Lebanon that sent a message to a ⌊great big⌋ cedar tree in Lebanon.
-or-
“⌊You (sing) are like⌋ a thorn bush that made a request to a great cedar tree of Lebanon.

25:18c ‘Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’

It said, ‘Give me your (sing) daughter to be the wife of my son.’
-or-
He said he wanted the cedar tree’s daughter to marry his son.

25:18d Then a wild beast in Lebanon came along

However, a wild animal from Lebanon came
-or-
But then an animal from the forest of Lebanon came

25:18e and trampled the thistle.

and trampled down the thorn bush.
-or-
and walked all over the thorn bush ⌊and destroyed it⌋.
