SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Chronicles 20:37

20:37a Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat,

Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu from Mareshah warned Jehoshaphat
-or-
Then ⌊the prophet⌋ Eliezer the son of Dodavahu from Mareshah City told King Jehoshaphat:

20:37b saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah,

saying, “Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah,
-or-
“Because you have made friends with King Ahaziah,

20:37c the LORD has destroyed your works.”

Yahweh will destroy what you have made.”
-or-
Yahweh will destroy these ships.”

20:37d So the ships were wrecked

The ships were broken
-or-
And it was true.⌋ The ships had an accident

20:37e and were unable to sail to Tarshish.

(English Standard Version🙂 and were not able to go to Tarshish.

and they could not sail to Tarshish.

and they were not able to go ⌊to trade with⌋ Tarshish.
