16:12a In the thirty-ninth year of his reign,

In the thirty-ninth year of his rule

When King Asa had ruled for thirty-nine (39) years

16:12b Asa became diseased in his feet,

Asa developed a foot disease.

he got a disease in his feet.

16:12c and his malady became increasingly severe.

This disease became very severe

This disease was very bad

16:12d Yet even in his illness he did not seek the LORD,

but still he did not ask Yahweh to help him.

but even though it was bad he did not pray to Yahweh to heal him.

16:12e but only the physicians.

He only asked his doctors to help him.

Instead, he went only to his doctors for treatment.
