13:13a Now Jeroboam had sent troops around to ambush from the rear,

Jeroboam had sent part of his army to go around and lay an ambush.

⌊While King Abijah was speaking,⌋ King Jeroboam sent some of his soldiers behind Judah’s soldiers to attack them.

13:13b so that while he was in front of Judah, the ambush was behind them.

Now his soldiers were in front and behind the army of Judah.

In this way, Judah’s soldiers had to fight soldiers who were before them and those who were behind them.
