10:8a But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the elders;

But Rehoboam turned away from their advice.

10:8b instead, he consulted the young men who had grown up with him and served him.

He asked for advice from the younger men who had grown up with him and were his servants.

Instead, he talked to the younger men who were the same age as him. These young men were now his advisors.
