10:2a When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard about this,

When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard this news,
-or-
Nebat’s son Jeroboam heard that ⌊the people had made Rehoboam be the king⌋.

10:2b he returned from Egypt,

he then returned from Egypt.

⌊When he heard this news,⌋ he left Egypt and came back to Israel.

10:2c where he had fled from King Solomon.

He had fled there to escape from King Solomon.
-or-
{At that time he was living in Egypt.} He went there to hide from King Solomon.

In the past, Jeroboam son of Nebat had gone to Egypt because he was afraid of King Solomon. When he was there, he learned that ⌊King Solomon had died and⌋ the people had made Rehoboam king of Israel. So he decided to come home.
