SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 6:8

6:8a The entrance to the bottom floor was on the south side of the temple.

The Masoretic text reads “the middle story/floor,” but the Septuagint has “the lowest story/floor.” Most English translations follow the Septuagint.

The way to enter the bottom story/floor ⌊of the side rooms⌋ was on the south side of the house.
-or-
The door/entry to the ground level ⌊of the extension/structure⌋ was on the side of the temple facing south.

6:8b A stairway led up to the middle level, and from there to the third floor.

From there⌋ a set of stairs/steps went up to the middle story/floor and the top story/floor.
-or-
Here there were stairs for people to climb/go to the levels above.
