SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 21:25

21:25a (Surely there was never one like Ahab,

Certainly there had not been someone/anyone like Ahab before.
-or-
It is certain that no one else had ever been ⌊as evil⌋ as Ahab was.
-or-
Surely nobody else had done ⌊the evil⌋ that Ahab did.

21:25b who sold himself to do evil in the sight of the LORD,

He committed/dedicated himself to doing what is evil/sinful in Yahweh’s sight.
-or-
He spent/wasted his life doing what Yahweh considers to be wrong/bad/evil.
-or-
He decided/chose to live his life in a way that did not please Yahweh.

21:25c incited by his wife Jezebel.

His wife Jezebel encouraged/persuaded him to do this.
-or-
It was Ahab’s wife Jezebel who provoked/pushed him to do those things.
-or-
Ahab lived like this in order to please his wife Jezebel.
