20:29a For seven days the armies camped opposite each other,

They camped facing one other for seven days.

For seven days, ⌊the two armies⌋ stayed in their own camps, facing each other.

20:29b and on the seventh day the battle ensued,

On the seventh/last day, the battle/fighting started.

At the end of that week, they began to fight.
