Section 1:1-4

Abishag came to take care of King David

1:1a Now King David was old and well along in years,

King David lived for many days/years and grew old/aged.
-or-
As the years/days went by, King David became an old man.

1:1b and though they covered him with blankets, he could not keep warm.

The blankets they put on him did not keep his body warm.
-or-
He ⌊always⌋ felt cold even when ⌊his servants⌋ put coverings on him.
