9:26a But the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites,

The four main gatekeepers/doorkeepers were from the tribe/clan of Levi.
-or-
It was necessary/prescribed that the four chief guards should be from the clan of Levi.

9:26b were entrusted with the rooms and the treasuries of the house of God.

Their job/duty was to manage/supervise the rooms and storerooms in the temple of God.
-or-
They were given the important/sacred task of taking care of the rooms and treasuries in the house of God.
