4:10a And Jabez called out to the God of Israel,

Jabez called on the God of Israel.

Jabez prayed to the God of the people of Israel. He asked him

4:10b “If only You would bless me and enlarge my territory!

⌊He said⌋ , “Oh that you would bless me and make my land bigger than it is now!
-or-
to be good to him and give him a bigger piece of land than he had.

4:10c May Your hand be with me and keep me from harm,

Be with me and do not let any harm come to me
-or-

⌊Jabez also asked him⌋ to protect him and keep him safe.

4:10d so that I will be free from pain.”

so that no pain will come to me.”

He did not want to come to any harm.

4:10c-d (combined and reordered)

I don’t want harm to come to me. I want your hand to protect me.”

He didn’t want any harm to come to him so he asked God to protect him with his hand.

4:10e And God granted the request of Jabez.

God gave him what he prayed for (GNTD).

And God did as he/Jabez had asked.
