2:3a The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanite.

The Canaanite woman Bath-shua had ⌊three⌋ sons with Judah. ⌊Their names were⌋ Er, Onan, and Shelah.

2:3b Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, who put him to death.

Yahweh saw that Judah’s first son Er was wicked, so Yahweh put him to death.
