18:2a David also defeated the Moabites,

David also overcame the ⌊people of⌋ Moab.

⌊The army of king⌋ David also ⌊attacked and⌋ defeated ⌊the army of the people⌋ of Moab.

18:2b and they became subject to David and brought him tribute.

⌊So king David’s army⌋ forced ⌊the Moab people⌋ to be under his authority and they brought him tax.

⌊As a result, king David⌋ forced them to do as he said, and they brought him gifts/tax.
