14:14a So David again inquired of God, who answered him,

So again, David prayed to God to ask him what he should do. God told him,

14:14b “Do not march up after them,

“Do not attack the army of Philistia from the front. (Translation for Translators)

that he should not march straight towards them.

14:14c but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.

Instead, go around them, and attack them from the rear in front of the balsam trees. (Translation for Translators)

Instead, ⌊David⌋ should go around and attack them from the other side, where the mulberry trees grew.
