SIL Translator’s Notes on Habakkuk 1:2

1:2a How long, O LORD, must I call for help but You do not hear,

I said,⌋ “Yahweh, how long must I call for your (sing.) help? Why do you not answer?
-or-
I asked⌋ Yahweh, “Why do you not respond when I cry for your help?
-or-
Yahweh, I continue to beg you so long for help, but you do not listen to me!

1:2b or cry out to You, “Violence!” but You do not save?

Or ⌊how long must⌋ I shout to you (sing.) that violent oppression ⌊is everywhere⌋ ! Why do not you save?
-or-
Why do you not save ⌊us (excl.) from the people who act⌋ violently when I complain to you ⌊about them⌋ ?
-or-
I cry to you that ⌊people⌋ attack others with cruelty, but you do not rescue ⌊their victims⌋ !
