19:7a The man got up to depart,

The Levite stood up to go,
-or-
The man wanted to leave,

19:7b but his father-in-law persuaded him, so he stayed there that night.

but his father-in-law convinced him to stay. So he stayed there another night.

but the woman’s father insisted that he stay again that night. And so that is what he did.
