Abimelek destroyed the town of Shechem

9:42a The next day the people of Shechem went out into the fields,

The following day the people of Shechem went out into their fields

The next day, the people of Shechem went to work in their fields.

9:42b and this was reported to Abimelech.

and Abimelek was informed of this.

Somebody told Abimelek what they were doing.
