9:3a And when his mother’s brothers spoke all these words about him in the presence of all the leaders of Shechem,

The brothers ⌊of his mother⌋ repeated his words to all the people of Shechem.

9:3b their hearts were inclined to follow Abimelech,

They decided to follow Abimelek

they decided to follow Abimelek.

9:3c for they said, “He is our brother.”

because he was one of them.
