SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 25:17

25:17a Each pillar was eighteen cubits tall.

A cubit was the length of a man’s lower arm from the elbow to the fingertips, about 18 inches or 45 centimeters.

The columns were both eighteen (18) cubits high.

Each of the pillars was eight meters tall.

-or-

Both pillars ⌊of the temple⌋ were twenty-seven (27) feet tall.

25:17b The bronze capital atop one pillar was three cubits high,

The bronze top of one column was three cubits tall.

-or-

The head/crown of bronze at the top of a pillar was one and one half meters tall.

-or-

The bronze top of each pillar was five feet tall.

25:17c with a network of bronze pomegranates all around.

It was decorated all around with a bronze net/network and bronze pomegranates.

-or-

It was decorated all around with braids/netting and pomegranate ⌊fruit⌋ , all ⌊made of⌋ bronze ⌊metal⌋ .

-or-

All around the top/tops was bronze braiding with bronze pomegranates.

25:17d The second pillar, with its network, was similar.

The other column and its net/network pattern/design was the same.

Both pillars and their braids/nettings were like this.

-or-

The two pillars and their decorations were the same.

25:17a-d (reordered)

The two columns were identical: each one was 27 feet high, with a bronze capital on top, 4 1/2 feet high. All around each capital was a bronze grillwork decorated with pomegranates made of bronze. (Good News Translation)
