SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 19:9

19:9a Now Sennacherib had been warned about Tirhakah king of Cush: “Look, he has set out to fight against you.”

Cush or Kush was an ancient kingdom south of Egypt. It included areas on the Nile River that are now part of Ethiopia and Sudan.

Then Sennacherib ⌊king of Assyria⌋ heard/received this message: “Tirhakah, the king of Cush, is coming to fight/attack you.”

-or-

Sennacherib was told/informed that King Tirhakah of Kush was on his way to fight/attack him.

19:9b So Sennacherib again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

So Sennacherib/he again sent his men/people to Hezekiah. He told them to give this message

-or-

So Sennacherib again sent messengers to ⌊King⌋ Hezekiah ⌊of Judah⌋ . He told/instructed his messengers
