SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 17:20

17:20a So the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel.

So Yahweh rejected all the descendants of Jacob/Israel.

-or-

As a result Yahweh stopped protecting/helping the peoples/tribes of ⌊both⌋ Israel ⌊and Judah⌋ .

17:20b He afflicted them

He made them suffer

-or-

He punished them

17:20c and delivered them into the hands of plunderers,

and allowed men/raiders to plunder/loot ⌊their towns/homes⌋ .

-or-

by letting ⌊their enemies⌋ steal/take their possessions.

17:20d until He had banished them from His presence.

In the end he pushed them away from him, ⌊out of the land of Israel⌋ .

-or-

Finally Yahweh sent them away from his presence/⌊land⌋ .
