SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 10:27

10:27a They also demolished the sacred pillar of Baal.

The Hebrew word that the New International Version translates as “the sacred stone” is literally “the pillar.”

They smashed/destroyed the pillar of Baal

-or-

They broke up the pillar sacred to Baal

10:27b Then they tore down the temple of Baal

and broke down the house of Baal.

-or-

and pulled down his temple.

10:27c and made it into a latrine, which it is to this day.

Since then people have been using the place as their toilet.

-or-

The local people/inhabitants turned it into a toilet area and that is what it still is.
