SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 5:5

5:5a “Go now,” said the king of Aram,

The king of Aram said, “Certainly you (sing.) may go.

-or-

The king said ⌊to Naaman,⌋ “⌊I give you (sing.) permission⌋ to go ⌊to Samaria⌋ .

-or-

The king told Naaman that he should go ⌊to see the prophet⌋ .

5:5b “and I will send you with a letter to the king of Israel.”

I will give you a letter for the king of Israel.”

-or-

I will write a letter for you to take to the king of Israel.”

-or-

Then he wrote a letter ⌊about the matter⌋ ⌊for Naaman to give⌋ to the king of Israel.

5:5c So Naaman departed,

So Naaman left ⌊Aram⌋ .

-or-

So Naaman set off ⌊for Israel⌋ .

5:5d taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold,

He took with him 750 pounds of silver and 150 pounds of gold.

-or-

He brought with him silver weighing 340 kilograms and 70 kilograms of gold coins.

5:5e and ten sets of clothing.

He also took⌋ with him ten changes of clothes.

-or-

He brought ten outfits/suits of ⌊good/fine⌋ clothes too.
