3:14a Then Elisha said, “As surely as the LORD of Hosts lives, before whom I stand,

Elisha replied ⌊to him⌋ , “As surely as Yahweh Almighty lives, whom I serve,

Elisha said, “I swear by the life of my master Yahweh the All-Powerful One,

Elisha ansered, “I am the servant of Yahweh who is ruler of all! I swear in his name that

3:14b were it not for my regard for the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah,

if I did not honor King Jehoshaphat of Judah,

that if I did not not regard/value King Jehoshaphat of Judah,

-or-

it is only because I respect Jehoshophat the king of Judah

3:14c I would not look at you or acknowledge you.

I would not have looked at you (sing.) or noticed you.

-or-

I would not have taken notice of you (sing.) at all.

-or-

that I am giving you any attention.

3:14a-c (reordered)

Elisha said, “Since Jehoshophat king of Judah is present, I will ⌊consider your (sing.) request⌋ . I honor/respect him. If he were not here, as surely as my Master Yahweh, the All-Powerful, lives, I would not have thought of listening to you!”

Elisha swore in the name of his God Yahweh the All-Powerful that he did not want to give Joram any attention or even look at him. He said that he would ⌊try to help⌋ only because he respected Jehoshophat the king of Judah.
