5:3b he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God

he was not able to build a house ⌊to honor⌋ the name of Yahweh his God.

he/David had was unable to build a temple for ⌊worshiping⌋ Yahweh his God.

5:3a-b (reordered)

You (sing) know that my father David was not able to build a temple to honor Yahweh, the God whom he worshiped. He had too many enemies who surrounded ⌊the land of⌋ Israel and fought with him often.

5:3c until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet.

⌊He could not build it⌋ until Yahweh gave him victory over his enemies.
